Orizaba Summit Climb

Our most popular itinerary, the Orizaba Guided trip is ideal for the mountaineer who is looking to build upon their climbing skills and complete the challenge of an 18,000 foot mountain. In addition, it gives climbers a chance to see some of Mexico’s beautiful landscapes and take part in the unique experience of participating in an international climbing trip.  1 or 2 Days may be added to this itinerary depending upon your arrival and departure flight times. Please Contact Us for the price of this itinerary.

Day 1
Arrive at Mexico City Airport – Our Summit Orizaba transportation document will provide information right from the Airport to our Hotel gate in Tlachichuca via direct coach liner transport.

Day 2
After breakfast, climbing preparations and packing is done followed by the scenic 4X4 drive up to our base camp at Pico de Orizaba ending at Piedra Grande, a large three level stone hut at 13,800ft.

Day 3
Following breakfast, we go for an acclimatization hike climb to 15,000′ and spend time reviewing ice axe arrest, cramponing and rope travel practices. We return to Piedra Grande hut were the remainder of the day is spent resting, hydrating, and making final preparations for our summit bid.

Day 4
Orizaba summit climb. Our alpine start takes 10-14 hours to reach and return from the 18,700ft summit. From the summit there are spectacular views into the dormant volcano crater and out across the Mexican landscape. After returning from the summit we will pack our gear and head back down to our Hotel where we will spend the night.

Day 5
Relax by spending some time in Tlachichuca prior to traveling to the Mexico City Airport for afternoon or evening flight home.
